In 1969, Apollo 11 astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin
"Buzz" Aldrin blasted off after 21 1/2 hours on the lunar surface and returned to the command module, piloted by Michael Collins. They left behind a plaque that read in part, "We came in peace for all mankind."
